20. The Grape

OPENING MONOLOGUE - (INT. COMEDY CLUB - NIGHT)

JERRY:
What's the deal with lost items? You drop something small, like a grape, and it vanishes. It's like a tiny black hole opens up in your kitchen. One minute it's there, the next it's gone. Maybe it joined the circus. Maybe it's living its best life under the fridge, starting a grape family. Who knows?

SCENE 1: INT. JERRY'S APARTMENT - DAY

[Jerry is on the phone, pacing.]
[Elaine enters, holding a small, intricately wrapped package.]
JERRY: No, Mom, I haven't seen it. It's a grape. How far can it roll? ELAINE: What's this about a rogue grape? JERRY: Elaine, my mom lost a grape. She's convinced it's a sign of something. ELAINE: A sign? Like what, the apocalypse? JERRY: Worse, she thinks the apartment's haunted. ELAINE: Haunted by a grape ghost? That's ridiculous. JERRY: Tell her that. She's been burning sage all morning.

SCENE 2: INT. MONK'S DINER - DAY

[Jerry, Elaine, and George are at a booth.]
GEORGE: So, my boss started wearing this new tie. It's got little embroidered grapes all over it. It's horrifying. JERRY: Grapes? That's a bold choice. ELAINE: Maybe he's trying to connect with the common man. You know, the fruit of the vine, the bounty of the harvest... GEORGE: He's just trying to get a promotion. He thinks the CEO likes grapes. JERRY: So now everyone in the office has to pretend to be grape enthusiasts? GEORGE: Worse, he keeps offering people grapes. 'Have a grape, George! Fresh from the market!'

SCENE 3: INT. JERRY'S APARTMENT - DAY

[Kramer bursts in, holding a bowl of grapes.]
KRAMER: Jerry, my grape vine is overflowing! I brought you some. JERRY: Kramer, where do you even have a grape vine? KRAMER: On the roof! It's thriving up there. The pigeons help with pollination. JERRY: Pigeon-pollinated grapes? I don't know about this. KRAMER: Try one! They're delicious. JERRY: I'm good, thanks. I'm still dealing with the trauma of my mother's missing grape.

SCENE 4: INT. COMEDY CLUB - NIGHT

[Jerry is performing.]
JERRY: So, my mother finally found the grape. It was stuck to the bottom of her slipper. She'd been walking around with it all day. The haunting is over.

CLOSING MONOLOGUE - (INT. COMEDY CLUB - NIGHT)

JERRY:
You know, a grape is a funny thing. It's small, it's round, it's purple. It's basically nature's gumball. But when one goes missing, it becomes a major event. It's like the grape becomes a metaphor for all the little things we lose in life. Our keys, our sanity, our remote control. It all disappears into the void, just like that grape.
