OPENING MONOLOGUE - (INT. COMEDY CLUB - NIGHT)
JERRY:What's the deal with apologies? You bump
into someone, 'sorry.' You step on their foot, 'sorry.' You insult their
mother, 'sorry.' It's like this magic word that erases everything. But
does it really? I mean, if sorry fixed everything, we wouldn't need
prisons, we'd just have apology booths. Step right up, five Hail Marys
and a 'my bad,' you're free to go.
SCENE 1: INT. JERRY'S APARTMENT - DAY
[Jerry is on the phone, pacing.]
[Elaine enters.]
JERRY: No, Mom, I told you, I didn't lose your argyle
socks. They're probably hiding with Dad's clip-on tie.
ELAINE: Argyle socks? Seriously?
JERRY: It's a whole thing. Anyway, gotta go, potential
sock emergency.
[Jerry hangs up.]
ELAINE: So, Mr. Marbles called. He wants you to
apologize.
JERRY: Apologize? For what? For him accusing me of
stealing his dry cleaning? He's the one who leaves his clothes in the
hallway like a homeless donation bin!
ELAINE: Well, he says you implied he had no fashion
sense.
JERRY: Implied? Elaine, the man wears a belt with
suspenders. It's a cry for help!
SCENE 2: INT. MONK'S - DAY
[Jerry, Elaine, and George are sitting in a booth.]
GEORGE: So, I told her, 'I think we should just be
friends.'
JERRY: And?
GEORGE: She said, 'Great! Can you lend me twenty
bucks?' Friends! What kind of friends?
ELAINE: You know, Mr. Marbles keeps calling me too. He
wants me to apologize for laughing when he tripped over his dry
cleaning.
JERRY: See? He's an apology addict! He trips, it's your
fault. He spills his coffee, it's your fault. He probably blames the
pigeons for his bad hair day!
GEORGE: Twenty bucks! What am I, a walking ATM?
SCENE 3: INT. JERRY'S APARTMENT - DAY
[Jerry is watching TV. Kramer enters, wearing a neck brace.]
KRAMER: Jerry, my neck! My neck!
JERRY: What happened to your neck?
KRAMER: Mr. Marbles! He tripped over his dry cleaning
again, and this time, he landed on me!
JERRY: I told you! The man's a menace! He's a walking,
talking, tripping lawsuit!
KRAMER: Now he wants me to apologize for not catching
him!
JERRY: Apologize? Kramer, you're the victim here! You
should be getting an apology, and a back rub, and maybe a small island
nation!
SCENE 4: INT. MR. MARBLES' APARTMENT - DAY
[Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer are standing awkwardly in Mr.
Marbles' cluttered apartment. Mr. Marbles is wearing a full body
cast.]
MR. MARBLES: So, are you here to apologize?
JERRY: Look, Mr. Marbles, about your dry cleaning...
MR. MARBLES: Dry cleaning? Oh, no, I'm not upset about
that anymore. I'm upset because none of you offered to help me pick up
my socks!
ELAINE: Socks?
GEORGE: Argyle socks?
KRAMER: Oh, those darn argyle socks!
CLOSING MONOLOGUE - (INT. COMEDY CLUB - NIGHT)
JERRY:So, what's the deal with argyle socks? I
mean, they're like the formal version of tube socks. You wear them with
dress shoes, but they still have that sporty look. It's like saying,
'I'm dressed up, but I'm ready to sprint at any moment.' Who are these
people? Are they expecting a sudden footrace? Is there an argyle sock
Olympics I don't know about?
