OPENING MONOLOGUE

INT. STAND-UP STAGE - NIGHT

JERRY:
What is the deal with specialty coffee shops? It used to be you went in, you asked for coffee, they gave you coffee. Now it's a whole psychological screening. 'What kind of milk? What temperature? What level of emotional roast are you looking for today?' You ask for plain black coffee, and they look at you like you just ordered a bowl of hot motor oil. They’ve made caffeine into a personality trait!

SCENE 1: INT. MONK'S DINER - DAY

Scene 1
[Jerry and George are sitting opposite each other in their usual booth at Monk's Diner, sipping hot beverages.]

GEORGE: She's a loose-leaf purist, Jerry! Her entire family drinks tea from antique clay pots. I couldn't just order a regular drip coffee in front of her father!

JERRY: So you lied? You told a tea family you're a tea connoisseur?

GEORGE: I panicked! I made up a region! I told them I only drink early-harvest Oolong from the southern slopes of Mount Fujian!

JERRY: Mount Fujian? That's not even a real tea mountain. You just combined Fuji and Fujisawa.

GEORGE: Well, they bought it! Now I have to attend a Sunday afternoon tea tasting at her uncle's house in Connecticut. I don't know the difference between Chamomile and Earl Grey!

JERRY: One tastes like dirt, the other tastes like perfume. Congratulations.

GEORGE: What about you? How's the new café down the block?

JERRY: Disaster. I tipped the barista two dollars, he gave me decaf by mistake, and when I pointed it out, he gave me 'the sigh'.

GEORGE: The heavy exhalation? The standard service-industry penalty?

JERRY: The heavy exhalation with the double eye-roll! Now I can't go back unless I accept decaf forever!

SCENE 2: INT. JERRY'S APARTMENT - DAY

Scene 2
[Jerry stands near the counter pouring water from a kettle while Kramer stands by the open doorway inspecting a small wooden box.]

ELAINE: Just go back to the café and demand real coffee, Jerry! You're paying four dollars a cup!

JERRY: I can't just demand it! If I make a scene, he'll mark my cup. You know what they do to cup-markers' orders?

KRAMER: Oh, they'll decaf you for life, Jerry. It's the silent killer. Your stamina drops, your focus vanishes... you become a shell!

ELAINE: It's coffee! It's bean water!

KRAMER: It's not just bean water, Elaine! It's the lifeblood of modern society! Look at this tea set I found for George. Vintage ceramic, high-pressure strainer. Pure craftsmanship.

JERRY: Where did you get that?

KRAMER: My friend Bob Sacamano. He imports them through a loop-hole in Canadian maritime trade laws.

ELAINE: George is going to poison himself trying to swallow hot leaves just to get a second date.

JERRY: At least he's getting real liquid. I'm operating at thirty percent brain power on this decaf placebos!

SCENE 3: INT. TRENDY COFFEE SHOP - DAY

Scene 3
[Jerry stands at the counter of a sleek modern coffee shop, leaning forward nervously toward a hip Barista.]

JERRY: Hi. Just a large drip coffee. Caffeinated. Extra caffeinated, if you have it.

BARISTA: You were here yesterday, right? The decaf guy.

JERRY: I was not the 'decaf guy' by choice! That was an administrative error on your part!

BARISTA: Right. Decaf.

JERRY: No! Not decaf! Caffeinated! The one that makes you jump around and talk fast!

BARISTA: Sir, there's no need to elevate your tone. We respect all coffee journeys here.

JERRY: I don't want a journey! I want a chemical stimulant to get me through the afternoon!

BARISTA: One Swiss-water decaf roast coming up.

JERRY: You're doing this on purpose! You're holding the caffeine hostage!

SCENE 4: INT. JERRY'S APARTMENT - DAY

Scene 4
[George is slumped on Jerry's sofa holding an ice pack against his mouth, while Jerry paces around the living room holding an empty paper coffee cup.]

JERRY: He decaffed me again! He looked me right in the eye, handed me the cup, and said 'enjoy the peace'. He's pacifying me!

GEORGE: (Muffled through the ice pack) You think you have problems? I burned my tongue on third-harvest Hibiscus!

KRAMER: Yeah, that's a second-degree scalding, George. The papillae are completely inflamed.

GEORGE: I had to pretend it tasted 'earthy'! I swallowed boiling flower petals for forty-five minutes!

JERRY: Did you get the second date?

GEORGE: Her father invited me to a matcha whisking ceremony next weekend! I can't do it, Jerry! My mouth is a wasteland!

JERRY: Well, at least you were offered caffeine. I'm drinkin' hot water with brown food coloring over here!

KRAMER: You know what you two need? A trade. George takes Jerry's decaf, Jerry takes the matcha!

JERRY: I'm not whisking anything, Kramer!

CLOSING MONOLOGUE

INT. STAND-UP STAGE - NIGHT

JERRY:
The worst part about decaf coffee is the complete lack of honesty. It's coffee without the purpose. It's like buying a sports car with a lawnmower engine inside. It looks like you're going somewhere fast, but you're really just making a lot of noise sitting in your own driveway!
